Alias: War Drum (by reputation) Name: Kei Koruno Age: 24 Gender: Male Height: 6’ 1” Weight: 160 lbs. Species: Human Rank: Human Class: High Clan/Land: Tsukuyomi (double-agent: truly Aku)
Magic/Abilities: Kei has the limited ability to hypnotize humans with weak willpower. The only way to initiate this is to look them straight in the eyes and have them look back into his. If they have weak willpower or are unable to control their thoughts for the moment, then he can do one of two things. First, he may take their actions and words completely under his control. While he does this, if he gives them any verbal or written order, they will carry it out—even into death. The other thing he could do is instead take their senses under his power; he can make them see anything, hear anything, feel anything, with the only limit being his imagination. As long as he remains in the same room or within ten feet of them, he can maintain the trance almost indefinitely, but as soon as he leaves the effects wear off within forty seconds. Other than this, the only possible way a human can break free of his hypnotism is if he allows them.
Phyiscal Description: Kei is a slim, and almost feminine-looking man, with a face like an angel’s and the beautiful ice-blue eyes to prove it. He has a very royal appearance in general, and carries himself with the posture, manners, and energy of a youthful prince. His hair is a light shade of yellow, with a certain silky feeling that can be felt nowhere else, and he keeps it cut at a modest (yet stylish) length, with the perfect shape for placing a crown upon. While he may seem like a girly fellow or even a sissy, his presence and the way he carries himself heavily implies a king in the making. However, despite his beauty, his face has one of the most practical things in the world for a man like him; his face is standard. Basic. No remarkable features grace his appearance, save for his eyes themselves. This can turn a gorgeous and utterly remarkable man into a master of disguise in an instant. Kei Koruno can be absolutely anybody he wants to be.
Personality: Kei is a very joyful and theatrical man, with tons of energy and absolutely zero empathy for human life. The first three he shows openly; the third, at least, he masks by acting like a compassionate individual. Generally, his first impression seems like a slightly excitable, but no less wonderful human being, who truly cares for those around him behind his flair for the dramatic and exuberant. Of course, he can’t express just one emotion believably without expressing the other; when he’s mad, he’ll still act like he’s full of good cheer, but he’ll get violent and most likely say incredibly cruel things. Fortunately, being without concern for the lives of most human beings, he doesn’t often feel other emotions. He’s only briefly known sadness before, and fear is completely foreign to him, so without that he’s not left with much. Still, he can act like nobody’s business, and pretend he has a very wide range of emotion for everybody. Kei can completely disappear into his role for long periods of time, nearly becoming another person altogether.
However, that does not mean he doesn’t value himself. On the contrary, the only other being on the planet he will obey besides himself is Akumu, who in himself is no longer a human. In truth, Kei is quite selfish, and believes that he is the only existing consciousness. Everything else is literally there for his personal amusement, and in a way, he is God. Now, if he was a harmless sort of fellow, this would make him a mere delusional. Kei is not a harmless fellow. This lack of distinction between him and others can make him a very dangerous and unpredictable man, when he wants to be. He specializes mostly in thinking up plans on his own, which is one of the reasons he won Akumu’s favor; if he’s directed just to make something up, then that is something he can be depended upon to do. The catch, of course, is that it takes a while for him to think something up properly depending on the complexity of the plan. A quick fix for a slight problem or a simple murder is easy, but if Akumu wishes for the Plan to take a step forward, it will take a few days of solitude to work out every detail.
If none of that so far has confirmed his insanity, then consider the fact that he constantly hears the sound of drums in his ears. Most of the time, it’s off in the distance, and he can tune it out; however, at times where he gets very excited or at even seemingly random moments, the drums can get louder. One would think that such a thing would be constantly torturing him or driving him mad, but Kei revels in it. He believes that until the sound of drums stops, then he can’t either. If he is upset, he can just listen to the drums and relax himself with the same repeated beat, as it rings in his head time after time. This is, of course, what earned him the reputation name of War Drum; when he kills or commits a monstrous act, then he always has that same beat somewhere in the background, or if it’s spontaneous, he’ll tap it out himself. Da-da-da-dum.
History: Childhood, unfortunately, was not an easy thing for him. He was born to a mother who relied entirely on her beauty to get by as a lady of the evening. Sometimes, strange men would come home and smack him around a bit, and he was too small to be able to fight back. But he wanted to, gods, how he wanted to! He grew to loathe his mother, even though she loved him with all her heart, he never understood why she degraded herself this way and why she allowed these hostile men into his life. So, he took his time. And he waited. Because he knew that if he ate his vegetables and did as he was told, he would grow up big and strong. When the time came for him to move on, he knew that something was going to tell him. When, not if, he killed his mother and ran from their home to live alone, without all these disgusting humans.
When he was eight years old, one morning he woke up to the sound of drums. He looked around to try and find the source—nowhere in their tiny house, or in the street, or anywhere else around. He asked his mother, “Can you hear that?” So she said no, and he knew then that it was time. Like the good little boy he was, he went out that evening to fetch firewood and hay. Except he was gone a little bit long, because he had to bring home some extra, which he placed under the house, with some flint stones hiding nearby. When night fell, like clockwork, he was told to wait out of sight while mother dearest took care of a client. But he stopped being a good little boy that night, for he had moved all the furniture against the door while they were making those horrible, disgusting noises with each other. So, before they even knew it, they were trapped in little Kei’s first inferno. While he walked away, it is said that he was still tapping the flint stones together in a certain rhythm.
So what was this small Kei to do, all alone in the world? Well, first, he wandered the countryside until he came upon the house of a farmer and his wife. While they were out working in the wheat fields, which conveniently were just a few inches taller than Kei, they didn’t see him until he was upon them with a sickle he had taken from the shed. Their bodies were left where they laid; since the couple lived alone and without connection, he took the home for himself. It was all his, wasn’t it? Not really. The old couple kept contact by letter with their children frequently, and it just so happened that this farmer and his wife gave life to a son who had become a rather highly-ranked man in Aku’s castle. Coincidence? Perhaps. But to a young boy like this, it seemed more like fate when he was whisked away to be given the death penalty. Ha! These people were so foolish. Couldn’t they see that if he died, they would all just vanish? He tried telling them this, but when they heard a little boy saying such things, their faces went red and they started yelling. Idiots. No matter how loud they were, the drums would always be louder to him.
While he was standing with the noose around his neck, watching all the silly people who had come to see his execution, he made one simple act that changed his life forever; he saw Akumu watching from a higher place, peering down at him, and he looked the man in the eyes. Then he smiled, and it was proven then and there that this boy was much too great a potential to be ignored. To the startle of the onlookers, the boy was whisked away by Akumu’s guards in a second, to be lead to the castle. At first, he still thought this was some sort of game, and they would take him back to his house once he was done having fun. But then he met with the king himself, and talked with him for a long time. Nobody knows what exactly they discussed, because even the guards were ordered to leave the room. When they were finished, though, he had done the unthinkable. Kei, who thought that he was literally the only true being in the world, had sworn his allegiance to Akumu and the land of Aku. Why? Nobody knows. But from that point on, the child was taken under his wing, and trained constantly to become the perfect right-hand man.
Soon enough, he was no longer a child. Over the years, Kei has acted on Akumu’s behalf many times, but always in a disguise. The only way that he even got the name War Drum as a single assassin was the fact that, throughout all of his personas, he uses the sound of the drums in his mind as a sort of signature. Recently, he has been ordered to take place in Akumu’s master plan. To finally conquer Tsukuyomi, he must marry the princess, and then become King. Being the obedient man that he is, Kei was only too happy to oblige.
Other?: He has a thing for maids.
