Alias;; Mello Name;; Mihael Keehl Age;; 16 years at beginning of story, 20 years at death Gender;; Male Hair;; Blond, cropped at shoulder length Eyes;; Blue-green Height;; 5'6" Weight;; 114 lbs. Ethnicity;; Slovene Location;; Wammy's House, to North America, to Japan Occupation;; Mafia Boss
Physical Description;; Although he may not loom over anyone with stunning height nor does he have a shockingly muscular build, Mello's presence alone is enough to intimidate anybody. On his angled face always rests a nasty expression, be it a cold grimace or a prideful grin, which is assisted in its nature by deep blue-green eyes. His hair is a golden blond and cropped just above his shoulders and the bangs ran across his forehead. In the beginning of his war against Kira and Near, the ends of his locks are kept straight and orderly. Eventually however, certain events make his hair seem more and more unkempt, leading to an uneven and disheveled appearance. Also, a desperate measure later marks him forever with a massive scar burned onto the left side of his body. It runs from the side of his face, down to his mid-shoulder. As stated before, his body isn't like that of a bodybuilder, but he does appear to have a rather toned build.
Clothing wise, Mello has an interest in the unconventional. Covering his chest is a skin-tight vest made of dark black leather, which happens to stop short at his abdomen and show a bit of his well-structured stomach. His pants match his upper attire, although the leather here is a bit shinier at a glance. They run down to his ankles and are held around his waist with a belt adorned with a large, silver buckle. Mihael's feet are covered by black boots and his hands with black gloves to match. Around his neck is a rather unexpected thing; a rosary. It is unknown if the crucifix that hangs down over his chest is of any meaning to him as a sign of faith or whatnot, or just simply a fashion statement.
Other accessories depend on Mello's mood or environmental conditions. On the majority of occasions, the young man can always be spotted with his obvious indulgence in his hand; chocolate. It might be a learned trait from his late mentor, but none the less, it is his obsession. It's very rare that he'll go for more than a hour without the certain sweet in hand or mouth. If the weather permits or he had something with hiding on him, Mello will be seen wearing a rather worn looking, sepia tone coat. The hood is lined with thick, warm fur. Also, if the Sun decides to get in his way or he doesn't want to attract attention, he'll wear a pair of dark sunglasses.
Personality;; There are two words that perfectly sum up Mello's personality; Inferiority Complex. No matter how intelligent and not matter how successful he may be, he is never satisfied with life until he is number one. From this mindset is born a natural loathing for anyone as good as or better than him at anything. Mello will quickly become obsessed with his goals if it means grinding someone into the dirt. There is not limit to his ambition, nor is there any fear of consequence. His mental state often pushes him over the edge in tight situations. As a result, Mello sees violence as an easy victory over his opponents and will often resort to it even when unnecessary. As long as he gets the respect or fear he believes he deserves, he doesn't give a damn about the result. Because of his nature, his fellow heirs at Wammy's House have grown used to seeing him in the role of the resident bully, and his fellow criminals see him as a fearless, reliable leader.
Mihael is incredibly different than his fellow heirs and even his mentor. Rather than taking extensive self-precaution before even daring to make a move, Number Two always dives in head first. His investigative strategy can be compared to a game of Russian Roulette. Gambles, sacrifices, and potentially psychotic moves are not below him. In fact, he'll do all of those things and more if the situation calls for it. This also may mean that someday he may do something drastic. After all, to someone like Mello, loosing is a fate as bad as death itself... On another note, the young mafia boss isn't nearly as collected or calm as his predecessor or his rival. Unlike most of the inhabitants in Wammy's House, emotions rule over his every move. He is the only young detective who becomes the least bit emotionally involved with his work and will commonly act off of those feelings without any thought. Therefore, he's more likely to loose his temper, act recklessly, or become desperate.
However, Mello isn't driven completely mad by his desires. It is possible for him to grasp things such as relationships like a normal human being. If someone has the patience to tolerate his terrible attitude, some of the aggressive tendencies will begin to dull. In fact, Mihael does actually have a few close, deep ties with other human beings that do not include the constant need to overcome them. L Lawliet, Mello's fallen idol, seemed to have been able to earn something most people didn't think existed; Mello's respect. L was the only man who the blond ever trusted enough to put his faith into and see as his better without bad intentions. Another person Mello has offered evidence of connection with is another orphan, Mail Jeevas, also known as Matt. Instead of a rival or an underling, it is possible that Number Two sees Number Three as possibly his equal. He has been known to put a great deal of trust in Matt, and surprisingly enough seems to admire him as a human being. I guess you could say that they are best friends. So, despite some belief from the students of Wammy's House, Mello is capable of being civil.
History;; Little to nothing is known about Mihael Keehl before he became Mello. Where he's from, who he used to be, how he ended up at Wammy's House, that's all a mystery to everyone. Don't expect to hear anything about it from the unstable heir himself. Whether it's because it's all behind him, he doesn't want to speak of it, or maybe if he doesn't remember it at all, he'll simply bark that it's none of your business. Besides, it doesn't effect his future anyway.
What does effect his future though are his precious days at Wammy's House. While the orphanage fanned the flames of his potential genius, it also unknowingly developed the boy's tragic flaw. Throughout his entire time at Wammy's House, Mello felt the horrible feeling that comes from living in someone else's shadow. He was forever Number Two, second best, in everything he ever did there. No matter how hard he tried, no matter how much blood or sweat was spent, he always fell short of being the very best. Fellow orphan, Near, firmly held the prestigious position for himself, earning the burning hatred of his rival. Throughout his entire teachings at the establishment, Mihael pushed himself as far as he could go, simply to prove that he could be better than Near.
Unfortunately, that effort eventually took a gruesome turn. During his work on the Kira Case, Mello and Near's mentor, the great detective L Lawliet, was killed. The two successors were the first to be told out of all of the children. The blond went into complete shock, a completely opposite reaction than the other boy. It was with a heavy heart that Roger, the man running Wammy's House at the time, noted to them both that dead men can't make decisions like who will succeed them. His suggestion was a risky one; that Mello and Near should work together to dispose of L's murder and future criminals. Near easily agreed, but Mello was hindered by the crippling curse of his envy. Rather than join his long-hated rival, he'd rather abandon L's legacy altogether. With his lifelong goal dashed, he no longer found any reason to be tied to the orphanage. It was with a bitter, wounded, yet determined heart that Mihael Keehl left Wammy's House at the age of fourteen to track down Kira and finally defeat Near in his own way.
Upon departing the orphanage, Mello cut off all of his ties with his past life. Near, Roger, and not even his best friend, Matt, ever heard even the slightest rumor of the young man's plans. It seemed that he dropped off the face of the Earth for the longest time, until he finally resurfaced in the most unexpected manner. Rather than defeat his foes as an icon of justice, he chose to fight as a criminal. In his reckless, guiltless nature, Mello had somehow forced the mafia under his control. The North American organization offered him the funds, strategies, and the goons he needed to truly do things "his own way". Now all he has to do is wait for his chance to strike at both Kira and Near. And of course, he certainly did plan to draw first blood...
RP Sample;; (OOC: This sample's from an RP on this website; "If You Were Dead And Still Alive".) Mello rapped his fingers against his his arm in unbroken anticipation. Harsh cerulean eyes locked on those of gentle scarlet. His gaze welded itself to her expression, searching always for any telltale signs of something he should be alarmed about. His jaw was locked tight, as if daring to let something escape would send any chance of hearing the truth into hiding. Good did as he asked, but the successor was too focused upon her words to let any sense of relief sink in. The sensation of some beast clawing at his mind only grew harsher and harsher until almost every answer flew at him at once.
Good hardly had to finish her explanation before Mello's knees seemed to buckle beneath him. The wave of shock was enough to take every muscle in his body into the undertow, but somehow the will to remain standing miraculously overcame it. The stone expression finally shattered into a thousand fragments, leaving Mihael's face empty to allow room for an expression of true and utter surprise. And to think that she hadn't even mentioned Hisaye's paternity yet at this point. He struggled to grasp any reasoning behind her words. She had used his real name, his real, freaking name. Who was she?! Several theories came to mind, but Mello found one that made at least some sense. Good must've had the Shinigami Eyes, no doubt about that. It was just too far fetched to imagine that L would dare to reveal his existence, let alone his name to her. Therefore, he could only scramble for a reasoning offered by the Godforsaken case. Before he had fled Wammy's, he had managed to lay eyes upon the results of L's labor, so he knew all about what he very well might be dealing with. But if this woman had the eyes...
Silence. Pure and utter silence. At least, that's how it became in Mello's mind for at least one brief moment when Good revealed her- No, Hisaye's secret. The room around him seemed to spin for a moment as the majority of the blood rushed out of his face. His eyes widened to a point that seemed perhaps a bit painful. L, L Lawliet, The L was her father. It didn't seem true. It couldn't be true. Yet, every time Mihael looked into the child's face, that was who he saw. The infant embodiment of his fallen idol was staring him straight in the face and that was exactly why. Hisaye was L's daughter. Mello had no time to recover before he noticed that the girl had awoken and was now giving him that specter of a stare. Those empty, haunting eyes pierced him in a way that he was all too familiar with, and for once doubt failed to grip him. Of course, that was only for the moment that she held that expression.
Then, the illusion was gone. Hisaye's now childish expression had snapped Mello back into the real world. And now that he was back down to Earth, there was reasoning to be done. He closed his eyes for a brief moment, raising a hand to his temples as he did so. Using two fingers, he rubbed at one of them, attempting to ease the threat of an oncoming headache. The cool leather of his gloves offered some comfort.
"That's impossible," he insisted. "Do you think I'm stupid?" he voice raised now from a low growl to a harsh accusation. Mihael's teeth grounded together between words and he opened his eyes to glare even more intently than before. "I doubt you even knew L that well to be making a claim like that!" Mello wondered just how true that statement was. L never loved anyone, as far as he knew. L respected, but never loved, did he? Sometimes he even wondered if L had any feelings for himself, Matt, or even Near, other than that of a distant mentor. That man was impossible to read. There was no way of knowing how he really felt about anything...
"Besides," he roared on, although he did feel a touch of doubt in his previous thoughts. "How am I supposed to believe you? You know L's real name, let alone my own," Mihael was too mindlessly aggressive at this point to even consider demanding to be called by his alias. "Which means, you must have those damned Shinigami Eyes, because those are two things I know that L would never say. And if you do have those eyes, how do I know that you're not the one who killed L?" Secret Words;; Sh, it's a secret
